Community Needs Assessments and Demographics

2009 Roanoke Regional Community Indicators Report

Each year the Council of Community Services publishes the Community Indicators Report containing indicator data and trends on a wide range of factors describing the well being of people in the Roanoke Region.  The report covers eight jurisdictions in the Roanoke Valley providing the most recent demographic updates and projections.

2008 Roanoke Regional Community Indicators Report

The Council of Community Services released the “Roanoke Regional Community Indicators Report” in Fall 2008. The data-rich report identifies and tracks key household economic indicators, presentations of valuable data that show change over time, for the eight jurisdictions in the Roanoke/Alleghany Region. The report tracks 39 indicators including, unemployment rates, job growth by industry and salary band, per capita income, annual average wage, consumer price index, poverty rates, graduation rates, affordability of single family homes and many others.

2010 Point in Time Survey

Every year in Virginia each jurisdiction participates in a point in time count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness. In the Commonwealth, the annual point in time count is conducted in January.  For details of the survey results please refer to the 2010 Winter Shelter Survey Report conducted by the Roanoke Regional Advisory Council on Homelessness.
