Smart Beginnings is a statewide collaboration to share information and efforts about making the most of the early years for Virginia's children.

Economic Impact
A paper by Robert G. Lynch entitled: Exceptional Returns: Economic, Fiscal, and Social Benefits of Investment in Early Childhood Development seeks to demonstrate that providing all 20% of the nation's children in poverty with a high quality early childhood development program would result in significant payoffs to government and to taxpayers.

Families and Work Institute (FWI) is dedicated to conducting research and providing objective information on work-life issues and concerns confronting workers and employers in order to inform decision-makers in government, business, communities, and families.

In Early Childhood Development: Economic Development with a High Public Return, Art Rolnick and Rob Grunewald discuss early childhood initiatives as smart economic development.

Throughout its 62-year history, the Committee for Economic Development has addressed national priorities that promote sustained economic growth and development to benefit all Americans.

Work and Family

WFC Resources (formerly Work & Family Connection) has been working to help employers create a workplace that's both supportive and effective. We offer a host of resources, including onsite and e-training, needs assessment, consulting and the world's only complete source of work-life news and information.

Families and Work Institute is a nonprofit center dedicated to providing research for living in today's changing workplace, changing family and changing community.

The Paid Leave Clearinghouse is an on-line library of citations and, in many cases, full-text documents pertaining to the topic paid family and medical leave. The collection begins in 1999 and includes materials produced by researchers, members of the media, legislators, legal practitioners, and advocates who hold a variety of positions on the subject.
